Lead-based Letterpress Wooden Printing Block. NOTE꞉ If you want to purchase a piece of United States postal history, don't buy an image ripped out of some magazine or newspaper. Instead, buy the printing block that printed the actual images! QUANTITY꞉ ONE vintage National League of Postmasters of The United States letterpress printing block. This extremely rare “NLPUS” printing block would make a wonderful addition to one of the private “postal employees only” memorabilia collections! CIRCA꞉ 1960s. Based on our research and the other printing blocks in the collection, we believe this particular letterpress block was likely produced and used in the 1960s. RARITY꞉ You are purchasing an EXTREMELY rare / unique, American-made letterpress printing block. In the late 1800's (and up through the mid-1900's) books, posters, tickets, forms, newspapers, and other types of printed paper were produced on a printing press. Movable type and wooden / metal printing blocks (also known as a letterpress cut or printing dies) were set in a frame (known as a chase) and ink was rolled over the surface of the metal image with a roller (also known as a brayer) before the paper was pressed into the inked surface. This process was known as relief printing which included woodcut, relief etching, linocut, linotype, and metal cut. DIMENSIONS꞉ This medium-size wood and metal letterpress printing block measures 0.915" deep by 4.39" high by 4.32" wide and weighs 6.6 ounces (187-grams). This stamp is a professionally made letterpress block used for printing. It shows surface wear from being in the press. ABOUT NATIONAL LEAGUE OF POSTMASTERS OF THE UNITED STATES: National League of Postmasters of The United States specialized [past tense] in providing services to the welfare of Postmasters, OICs, PMRs, and EAS employees. The Company provided resources such as legislation and educational services to assist its members, was located at 8 Herbert Street in Alexandria, Virginia and was considered a tax-exempt labor organization under 26 U.S.C. § 501(c)(5). The National League of Postmasters of the United States voted on July 1, 2015, to dissolve their 112-year old organization effective October 31, 2016. The historic vote held at the League’s National Convention in Washington DC was contingent upon the adoption of a concurrent resolution at the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, (NAPUS) national convention to be held in Mobile, Alabama. The dissolution cleared the way for the creation of a new organization that would be incorporated as United Postmasters and Managers of America (U.P.M.A.). The new organization was scheduled to begin operation on November 1, 2016. CONDITION꞉ This item is used. ORIENTATION꞉ Wrong reading. What this means is when you hold the block in your hand and look at the metal die, the image is reversed. NOTES ABOUT THE IMAGE SURFACE: Every time a die passes through the printing press, the pressure of the die imprinting on the paper subtly degrades the surface of the plate/die/block. Please see the photo if you have any questions regarding the suitability of this block if you actually intend to use it for printing. SHIPPING COST꞉ Your shipping cost is calculated when checking out. To keep your shipping cost as low as possible, it's based on weight, package size and destination (i.e. “DIM”). This item ships by United States First Class Mail or eBay International Delivery. Orders typically ship within one business day of your payment being received.
